Platelet Donation Requirements

Requirements

  • Healthy donor, usually 18–65 years.
  • Minimum weight commonly 50 kg.
  • Good platelet count after screening.
  • No fever, infection, or recent major illness.

Matching

  • ABO-compatible platelets are preferred.
  • HLA-matched or crossmatched platelets may be needed for repeated transfusions.
